Dr. Michael E. Smith is an applied neuroscientist and marketing professional who has worked across the commercial, governmental, and academic sectors. Currently he is Principal Scientist at Adaptation Research, a strategy consultancy focused on developing brain-based insights into sustainable human behavior. He recently served as Vice President of Consumer Neuroscience at the market leading research firm Nielsen, where he managed pro bono work with NGOs and consulted with global corporations on strategies for leveraging neuroscience to improve consumer engagement with advertising, branding, products, and packaging. Prior to Nielsen he was President of CorTechs Labs Inc, the market leader in developing and commercializing quantitative brain imaging tools for precision neuroradiology; a Program Officer for Cognitive Neuroscience at the US National Science Foundation; and Principal Neuroscientist at SAM Technology, a groundbreaking R&D organization developing applied neuroscience tools in the domains of neurology, psychiatry and human factors engineering. Michael is an author on dozens of publications in peer-reviewed neuroscience journals and an inventor on several related patents. He earned a PhD with a focus on Cognitive Neuroscience from UCLA as well as an MBA from UC Berkeley.
